Soooo, what is author coaching anyway?

I'd say the #1 question I get asked on a daily basis is....so, what it author coaching anyway? And why do I need it? Before I get into that, let me give you a bit of background into who I am as a person. I've been writing since 2011, I write in a few genres. (but I read in sooooo many) Right after I started writing, I saw the need for more promotion after publishing, so I also became the Release Day Diva. I did Facebook events for a few years and had a ton of fun doing them! But, everything changes eventually right? I made the decision to stop the events, and moved on to something brand new! I started offering what I called "Boot Camps" where we were together for one week and writing huge amounts every day. That was the starting point to something so huge for me, that it took me almost 2 years to see it fully. On that day, I became an author coach and didn't realize it.

Fast forward to December 2016. This was the month that really changed my life. I told myself I wanted to see what would happen if I really gave this author coaching thing a real try and took it seriously for a whole year. I told myself that if it didn't work out in the year, then I would know I gave it my all. Let me tell you, 4 months into the new year and I've surpassed every goal I set for myself in December. It's brought so many amazing ladies into my life, and I'm beyond blessed to work with each and every one of them. I've been able to renew friendships with people (KP I'm talking about you) and I even have hired the most amazing assistant in the entire world! Kallie is also an author, and that's originally how we met. God brought us together to do great things!

So back to the question at hand, what is an author coach? What I do is help you succeed. I walk along side you as you write your book and keep you motivated and excited about it. I hold you accountable on days that you don't feel like writing, and I listen when you need an ear. I always tell my authors to think of me as a tool in their tool chest, ready to help at any moment they need it. My motto is, Just Write! I want to help take everything away so you can sit down and Just Write!

Why do you need me? That's the question you need to ask yourself. Are you unhappy with how things are in your writing right now? Are you ready to go all in with it, but need some help? Are you struggling with self doubt? I promise, I can help.

Above anything else, I'm here for you as the whole person. I don't just look at the writing. I need to be able to see why you're struggling in order to help you get over the hurdle. We all have struggles, we all go through dark times. I just want you to know that you're never alone, and there is help out there for you.

Love & Blood Release

It's here!! It's finally here!! The re release of Love & Blood! I'm so dang excited! I decided about six months ago that I wanted to revise the story, and at first I was scared. I wrote the book in my first year of writing, so I knew there would be a lot of things to change. What I hadn't anticipated was how much I would enjoy doing it. I fell in love with the story all over again, and I saw the characters in a new light. So, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

What I never knew I needed.

So a while back, I'm talking 4-5 years ago, I became 2 people. I was me, the author, and me, the online event planner. Truth be told, more people knew me as the Release Day Diva haha. It was such a fun time in my life too, always different. I met so many amazing people and overall had so much fun.

But then, as things do, things shifted. Events weren't as fun to plan and host, and my personal life became more complicated with fertility treatments and being a mom to a young child. So I hung up my event planning hat. And for a while, I hung up my author hat too. Writing stopped being fun. It became the job I felt like I had to do and no longer wanted to.

I took almost a full year off and just enjoyed being me. The mom, and the wife. I laughed with friends, read tons of amazing books, and just got to be for a while. Then something happened....I realized I missed my little book family. I missed the camaraderie of writing with others. Mostly, I missed cheering my fellow authors on from the sidelines, or next to them in the trenches.

So, I decided to start up my writing boot camps again. In my head it would be a fun way to dip my toe back into the whole crazy writing world again. So I did just that. I opened the page back up, and ran a few week long boot camps. Those ladies brought me back to life, no lie. Cheering them on, and seeing them succeed, it brought me to life again. So Kim, Tiffany, and Belinda, I thank you for that!!

What now? What did I do now that I had the desire to start writing again? I'll tell you! I gave myself permission to write what I wanted, and not chase the "hot genre" anymore. I'm sure you can imagine how stressful it can be to always be looking at the charts and seeing what's hitting. It's no way to live!

That's what I've been doing, writing for me. And I've had more fun in the last 4 months than I've had in years! My advice to any of you is to follow your passion. If your passion is Contemporary Romance, write it! PNR? Write it!! Readers will feel it in your pages, I promise!!

Ok, so now a little bit more about the boot camps....I had to figure out what I was going to do with it all, so I became an author coach! What does that mean? Well, in a nutshell it means I'm here to help. I still offer the boot camps, but now I offer more intensive coaching. This is where you get daily one on one help. I help you set up a realistic schedule and motivate you to stick to it. I give advice on plot issues and flow, and later on who to use for editing and fomatting as well as promo.

I never realized what being a cheerleader meant to me, until I stopped doing it. Never again will I do that. I challenge you all to find that in your life, the one thing you would be miserable without. Once you know what it is, your job is to nurture it.

He climbed onto the foot of my king-sized bed, handed me my black coffee, and set out the food carefully. "How about breakfast in bed and a movie?" He pulled Almost Famous out of his jacket pocket and tossed me a smirk. The smell of the bitter coffee made my mood lift a little, and I peeked out from under my blankets.

There is no way I can turn down that smile, my favorite movie, and breakfast bribery.

"How could I say no to an offer like that?" I jumped out of my bed, tousled my hair a little in an attempt to tame it slightly, and put all of the pillows back onto the bed while Walker started the movie and threw his black leather jacket onto the floor.

We climbed under the covers, cuddling down to have an awesome breakfast with good company. Walker’s shoulder cradled my head as I slurped coffee from the plastic lid and let my eyes wander over his muscular, tattooed arms. I had been with him and Randy for almost every one of their ink sessions. I could imagine the swallows on Walker’s chiseled chest that he got about a month after we met. He was handsome and tall, and he had an erotic stare that could make any girl wet within seconds. I never knew why he just jumped around from girl to girl, not even able to define monogamy. Randy had always said that being promiscuous was just in Walker’s nature, and I never questioned it further.

It was comforting to have someone fill the other side of the bed. We watched the movie, reciting every line, and munched away on the glazed treats. When the credits started to roll, Walker pulled me to him tighter; he could always tell when the tears were about to start. I breathed in his mix of salty tears and men's cologne, a smell that had become a little too comforting to me recently. We lay silently while the credits played out, the movie soundtrack hushed in the background of our embrace.

When the room went silent, I buried my face into Walker’s chest a little harder. "You'll never know how much it means to me that you come here every week," I choked out, unable to contain my emotions any longer. His thumb battled the tears cascading down my exposed cheek.

Walker’s big green eyes were soft, a look rarely seen from the hard-ass country boy. Knowing that made his kind face and words mean so much more to me. "I'll never miss our Sunday tradition. It's the best part of my week. You still don't know how much it helps me too."

The sincerity of his words spread over Walker’s face, and again, he stunned me. His chiseled jawline, jet-black hair, and olive skin made his light eyes stand out, and when he was vulnerable to emotion, it made everything that much more handsome.

I guess you could say that writing is like my super power (I always wanted one of those). I was lucky and persuaded Mandie to answer a few questions!

1. What made you decide to start writing?

I’ve had stories in my head since I was a little girl. I was always in trouble for

daydreaming in class. In 7th grade we had to write a page and a half story but

mine was twenty pages. My teacher suggested I keep with it but I didn’t. When I

became an adult I decided to start up again to clear my mind and now I get paid

to daydream.

2. Do you have a favorite genre to read? I LOVE paranormal, Kim

Harrison, HD Smith, Tawdra Kandle, Richelle Mead, K.M. Moning, Patricia

Briggs, and Kelley Armstrong to name a few. “People” say paranormal is

out but I still love and want to read it. I also enjoy cozy small town

contemporary romances.

3. If you could meet any author living or dead, who would it be and

why? I’m co-organizer of Indie BookFest and I’ve met so many amazing

authors. I’ve also met Kim Harrison, Charlaine Harris, HD Smith and

Kelley Armstrong. Tawdra Kandle is one of my favorite authors but she is

also one of my best friends. Maybe Richelle Mead?

4. What advice would you give to aspiring authors? Focus on writing.

You need to get a few books written before you concentrate on marketing.

Just sit down and do it.

5. What's next for you? The second book in the Olde City Angels series,

Ethereal is coming out this winter. I also completed a book called The

Edge of Eden last year before we found out my husband had cancer. I will

be working on rewrites and releasing soon after, probably February. You
