How far would you go to avenge your family and save the one you love?

In
19th century England, Alaina Claiborne had a loving family, a cherished
friend, and devoted servants. She spent her days riding across the
grassy hills of the English countryside, joyful and at peace. Then
tragedy strikes in the worst possible way and her world is forever
changed, childhood gone and a new course set. Searching for a killer is
her only focus, that is until she meets Tristan.

Tristan
Sheffield is a man of many talents, among them searching out those who
don't want to be found. His past is filled with secrets and deeds he
would rather leave deeply buried. However, when his life is unexpectedly
entwined with Alaina's, he soon discovers they share more than a mutual
desire to catch a murderer.

On their hunt for a man driven by
greed, Tristan and Alaina find that love is the greatest weapon against
evil and they'll stop at nothing to survive.

Excerpt:

Tristan ignored the pain in his shoulder

from busting down the back door as he made his way frantically through the old
house. It was dark, dank, and an unpleasant odor wafted from the skeleton of
every room. It looked as though someone had been there on and off for a while. The floors were
covered in an inch of dirt except through the kitchen and the
back hallways, both of which appeared to be well trodden paths through the
house. Tristan swore that he could hear rats scuffling along the upper floors
and there was the distinct smell of death lingering in the air. Whoever had
made their temporary home in that debilitated old structure was probably shoved
away in a closet somewhere.
He
continued his search, finding nothing. The screams had stopped the moment he broke through the back
door and he
was now looking everywhere for a basement door. The sounds had been too muffled
to have come from upstairs. Charles met him halfway through the search,
revealing that he too had found nothing; until they happened upon a door in the
kitchen floor.
Charles
placed a hand on Tristan, holding him off, wanting to go first, but Tristan
shook him off and pulled up on the heavy door. The corridor leading down was
darker than the rest of the house and smelled much worse.  Feeling their way along the wall, both
men
carefully felt their way down the steps. Up ahead a dim light cast shadows and
the glowed a little brighter with each step. Picking up his pace, Tristan moved
towards the light and came to another door. This one was bolted shut and on the
other side came the moans-barely audible, but they were there.
“Alaina?”
Tristan yelled through the bars in the door.
No answer; a small moan. Charles studied
the lock for a moment.
“We
won’t be getting through this one easily,” he offered.
“Like
hell we won’t,” Tristan replied and pushed Charles back.

Excerpt from the book:
“Oh, food—how we love you, and how we fear you. How we desire you, and how we push you away. Food, you shameless flirt, you player, you tease. You could almost seduce us into an illicit affair. . . . Maybe because moms are so concerned with setting a good example or guiding their kids down the right path, we sometimes make ourselves feel guilty. We deny ourselves pleasure. But when it comes to food, this is a big, Oh, no, you don’t! Denial leads to obsession—the nasty kind where you can’t get that bad boy out of your head and then you binge. Instead, when you give yourself the license to love a variety of foods, experiment with an array of flavors, and lighten up on your self-righteous have-to-eat-100-percent-healthy-and-be-perfect-all-the-time side, then you can give yourself permission to love—food and anything or anyone else. You find a new balance. You find your own personal way of healthy eating. Fear leads only to ruin. Denial leads to deprivation. Controlled indulgence, on the other hand, leads to freedom.”

Just a few of the many busy-mom-friendly tips readers of REAL MOMS LOVE TO EAT will learn include:

· Make it All About YOU: Remembering the pleasure inherent in early food experiences can make food seem like a friend, not an enemy. Beth teaches readers how to have a loving relationship with food and recapture the pleasure, showing them how to change their perspective on food-for good. Out with the guilt and in with the happy-tasty-delicious! This book will provide the tools needed for moms to feel more energetic and still look great in those skinny jeans!
· Get Naked with Raw Foods: Every bite of fresh, scrumptious, whole foods can increase vitality, energy and contribute to the health of the planet. Raw foods are easy to prepare and make your mouth sing. You’ll be asking the sales clerk, “May I get a smaller size, please?” in no time, when you get on the whole-food wagon.
· Tame your Cravings Dragon: If you’re yearning for sweets and processed baked goods, odds are your cravings dragon needs to be tamed. By consuming nutrient-dense whole grains, such as quinoa, whole-grain toast with sesame butter, and oatmeal, that dragon of yours will turn into a pussycat in no time.
· Hungry for More Lovin’?: In addition to the easy-to-follow steps outlined in Beth’s 10-part plan, there’s 21 days of lick-the-back-of-the-spoon, sample menu suggestions, complete with lifestyle recommendations and recipes including, Balsamic Broccoli Salad, Harvest Pumpkin and Black Bean Soup, Lime-Crusted Spiced Salmon, Cocoon Chicken and Apple Cobbler Du Barbi—and yes, you can have a piece of chocolate every day—Beth insists upon it! Find out why.

Author interview with Imogen Rose

We are incredibly lucky to be joined by the totally talented Imogen Rose today. She's going to answer some questions for us, and give us a blurb from her book Portal.

1. How did you come up with the idea for your book Portal?

The initial idea came from a dream—Arizona waking up in the back seat of her mom’s car—
but the story then morphed, inspired by everything around me, including my mom’s passing
and the fantasy of being able to see her again.

2. You’ve lived quite a few places over the years, which one feels most like home to you?

London feels most like home. That’s where most of my closest friends live.

3. Tell us something most people would find surprising about you.

I am very, very naughty. Just ask my close friends

4. What kind of books do you read when you have time?

I used to love medical thrillers, but now I mostly read YA books.

5. Do you have a writing routine you follow?

No, routines sound like work, I write for fun.

6. What’s next for you?

I am writing the sequel to Initiation at the moment. Then, next up will be Fusion, the fifth
book in the Portal Chronicles.

Thanks again for stopping by today Imogen:) Here's a look at Portal.

Come Find Me Two Years Ago...

Six words that propelled ice hockey playing
tomboy, Arizona, into an alternate
dimension.
She suddenly found herself in the past. In
one moment she went from being an ice
hockey playing teenager in New Jersey to a
glamorous cheerleader in California. She
found herself transported from a happy life
with her dad, Dillard, to a new, strange one
living with her mother whom she hates.
Apparently it's a life she's always lived in.
Everyone knows her as Arizona Darley, but
she isn't. She is Arizona Stevens. As she struggles to find answers she is certain of
one thing- that her mother Olivia, a brilliant physicist, is somehow responsible...
PORTAL is the story of the repercussions of Olivia Darley's attempt at creating a
perfect world for herself and her children. Arizona's quest for answers threatens
to undermine the seemingly perfect world that her mother has so carefully
constructed.

PORTAL is the first book of the Portal Chronicles. Fans of time travel, romance,
and the supernatural will enjoy Arizona's quest for answers.

A little bit about the author.

Imogen Rose is the author of the bestselling YA
series, the Portal Chronicles. She was born in a small
town in Sweden and moved to London in her
twenties. After obtaining a PhD in immunology from
Imperial College, she moved with her family to
New Jersey, where she’s been based for the past ten
years.

For as long as she can remember, Imogen has dreamt
stories. Stories that continued from night to night,
from dream to dream. So, even as a child, going to bed was never an issue, just an
anticipation of the story to come.

PORTAL, Imogen’s first novel, would have remained in her imagination, to be
shared only with her daughter, Lauren, had her eight-year-old not insisted that she
write it down. In the course of a month, Imogen typed while Lauren waited eagerly
by the printer for the pages to appear, and a novel took shape.

The warm reception PORTAL received encouraged her to continue with the
story and the Portal Chronicles. The Bonfire Chronicles is Imogen’s new YA
paranormal series.

Imogen is a self-confessed Hermès addict who enjoys shopping, traveling,
watching movies and playing with her dog, Tallulah.

Veronica Blade author interivew

We are joined today by author Veronica Blade. Thanks so much for stopping by:)

1. I love the idea for your book, how did you come up with it?
I’ve had a long-time love of all things Cinderella and an obsession with werewolves and vampires. It was only natural that the two should meet.
2. Tell us something most people don’t know about you?
I’m pretty much a let-it-all-hang-out kinda girl, so not a lot of secrets there. But very few people know about a dating show I was on years and years ago. Three guys interviewed three girls on behalf of their friend
who sat behind a wall (only the audience could see the guy). I think I won his friends
over when I started talking about my motorcycle (which I’ve since sold).
3. Do you believe that love conquers all?
That concept definitely makes for better fiction! I do believe it happens for some people though. For others, no. Humans are weird. We have baggage and we don’t always behave rationally. We’re too good at screwing everything up or sometimes we’re too foolish to know a good thing when we see it (like
me in my youth!). Thankfully, we have romance novels and fairy tales to fill the void.
4. What can you absolutely not live without?
My laptop. Seriously, I would go bonkers if I couldn’t do something on my writing every single day. Yes, even Christmas.
5. How did you start your career as an author?
I’d always wanted to write a real novel, but it just never happened. I think when I began writing and illustrating children’s phonics books about five years ago, my creative juices went wild. Now I can’t stop.
6. Any advice for aspiring author’s?
1. Writing isn’t as easy as it looks. If you read a book where the story line makes sense and the sentences are smooth, I guarantee that the author put a ton of effort into it. 2. You need to know the essential elements to story-telling and the writing rules, so you know when to break them. 3. I think every newbie
author fantasizes that someone will fall madly in love with their masterpiece and the
author will be instantly rich. Sure, it happens to some people, but it’s very very rare. Be
prepared for the long haul. If you truly love story telling, it will be the ride of your life.
7. What’s next for you?
On St. Patrick’s day, another novella was released called FromFame to Shame. Here is the blurb:

When good-girl Maddie switches places with her famous bad-girl twin Jackie,
she has some pretty high stilettos to fill.

Despite the danger of tabloid drama if their identity swap is discovered,
Maddie has to save her sister's butt. When Jackie’s ex-boyfriend shows up
with a rekindled spark for “Jackie,” his deep gray eyes and sweet kisses
make Maddie's heart thumpety thump. But dating the guy who dumped
her sister is a no-no. Too bad Dallas isn’t used to girls saying no. What will
happen when he discovers Maddie’s deception?

Thanks so much for having me, Jessica!

You are so very welcome Veronica, this was such a fun interview. Below is the blurb and an excerpt from Veronica's book A Bite's Tale.

A Bite’s Tale: A Furry Fable
By Veronica Blade
A sweet romantic tale with a Cinderella spin featuring vampires, witches and werewolves

Blurb:
A Cinderella who spends her nights as a wolf. A prince with a taste for blood.
Seventeen year old Cydney struggles against her werewolf nature, trying to keep everyone around her safe. No way will she risk exposing the beast at the prince’s ball, no matter how her two cousins try to persuade her. Even as she attempts to get on with her life, Cydney can’t forget the boy she loved three summers ago — or what she did to him after losing control.
Turned into a vampire to save his life, the prince refuses to live up to his royal duties. He just wants to find the girl he loved and lost...the werewolf girl who bit him. But his father, the king, commands him to attend a ball where he must choose a wife. Can he find his Cinderella before he's forced to marry another? He doesn’t even have her real name, much less a glass slipper.

Excerpt:

If I’d known it could be like this and that she’d wanted it too, I would’ve kissed her ages ago. I
mentally kicked myself for wasting all those weeks when we could’ve been doing this the entire
time.

Her hand crept up under my shirt and her fingers trailed along my back. Goosebumps danced on
my skin. She pressed closer against me and I took the kiss deeper, letting loose my weeks of pent
up craving for her.

I didn’t think life could get any more perfect than being with Cindy. And I no longer yearned for
a normal life. I wanted things to stay exactly as they were at that moment. With my Cinderella.

Forever.

A soft moan erupted from my throat when she angled her face to take the kiss still deeper. I slid
my arms around her waist and the tips of my fingers inched up underneath her tank top.

She shivered.

But it wasn’t a usual shiver. Her whole body began to tremble and I nearly lost my hold on her. I
pulled back. Cindy’s eyes grew huge and her pupils dilated.

She threw her head back, her limbs vibrating as she growled. No, not a growl. It was more like a
dull roar, full of pain and anguish. Was she… was my Cindy about to turn into a werewolf? Or
was it something else? Maybe if I held her again, whatever was happening to her might stop. I
lunged for her.

“Get away from me!” Sobbing, she shoved me back, but in the process, one of her claws raked
across my chest.

I flinched, as blood beaded on my skin. A little scratch wasn’t going to stop me though. Not
when Cindy needed my help. I stepped forward again.

Her lips curled up, exposing long, growing teeth and she shrieked. Yeah, she’d hit werewolf
maturity all right. But she hadn’t completely morphed. Just her teeth and nails. Maybe if I
calmed her, she could prevent it from progressing. I wrapped my arms around her waist, as I’d
done just moments ago, and pulled her close.

She shrieked again, then searing pain shot through my arm.

Werewolf bite. Oh, crap. My dad was going to kill me… unless the werewolf virus beat him to it.

The forest spun around me and I couldn’t keep my eyelids up. My muscles went lax and when
the ground rose to slam against me, I didn’t feel a thing.

Hooray for me!

I have officially finished writing Chasing the Witch, book 2 in my Boston Witches series! This book has truly been a labor of love. I've been working on it since October (well, on and off, book 1 kept pushing it's way to the front of the line), and I'm so happy to say that I'm done. I feel such a sense of accomplishment to finally put this part in the series to bed.

When I started writing the book, I would just write, and not worry about spelling or punctuation, figuring that spell check would take care of all of that. It's true, spell check does take care of it, but you still have to sit in front of your computer clicking the change or ignore button a million times before you actually get through the whole book. I really need to not wait until the end to fix all that crap next time lol. I'm not even halfway through and I needed a break. I really want to finish it so I can pass it on to some of my favorite crit partners, but it probably won't happen tonight. Although, I say that, and I'll probably end up staying up way too late to do it. I'm crazy like that lol.

Kinley Baker Interview

We are lucky enough to be joined by author Kinley Baker. She's been kind enough to answer a few questions for us, and give us an excerpt from her book Ruined.

1. I love Jessa’s spark, did you model her after someone you know, or is she a character
who lived in your head?
That is a lovely compliment, thank you. Jessa is a character who lived in my head. And
she had to live there for a long time before I could finally write her correctly. It took me a
lot of drafts and soul searching to give her the spark that balances out the other sides of
her personality.
2. What is your favorite genre to read when you have downtime?
I love romance! Give me a happy ending, and I am a fan. My favorite romance to read is
usually category romances. But I also follow paranormal romance closely.

3. What is something that your fans don’t know about you?
Hmm… good question. I would say that they probably don’t know that I think I’m
hilarious. But if you follow me on Twitter, you probably know that. Lol. But what you
might not know is that I get my sense of humor from my father, and all growing up he
told me he wasn’t sure that was a good thing.

4. How did you get started writing?
I graduated with a degree in Creative Writing, but it wasn’t until I started reading a lot of
romances that I realized I needed to write. I wrote my first book in 2008, and I’ve been
writing ever since. Once I joined Romance Writers of America in 2010, I hit the ground
running trying to learn as much as I could about the craft. It was also a great way to
meet other writers, which definitely helped me continue on this journey.

5. Any advice for aspiring author’s?
Keep writing, keep reading, keep believing. Learn about the craft. There are so many
different paths to travel. Find one that works for you.

6. What’s next for you?
Book Two in the Shadowed Love Series. Right now the working title is Denied. I am SO
excited about this book. Caleb is the hero, and I can hardly wait until we finalize the title
and blurb so I can share more.

As promised, here's the excerpt from Ruined, enjoy :)

"You." Fury burned hot under Jessa's skin as she glared at Vale. "Who do you think you are, demanding
I come live in this castle? You can't just order your guards to enter a woman's home and pack up her
things."

"Well, I did." Vale came around the desk and propped one hip against it, more of a threatening than
casual movement.

"Someone tried to kill me. It makes sense that I have my Healer close by."

She released a pent-up breath. "Why couldn't you have explained that instead of mandating?" Silly. Her
imagination had run away with her. The king needed his Healer. But the realization he didn't want her
made her angrier.

"Because I didn't want to give you the option of saying no."

She most definitely would have said no.

"If you would have explained your reasoning, I would have complied. Your safety and health come first,
even if I-"

"Even if you what?"

"Loathe you." She bunched her fingers into two fists, seriously tempted to hit him. For all the nonexistent
pain it would inflict upon him.

"Do you?" His tone deadened with calm. "Because I can't stop thinking about you."

"That's normal." She brushed off the claim. "I saved your life."

He moved in a blur. A true Shadow Shifter. One second he stood near his desk, the next he had her in his
arms, one locked around her waist and one hand tangled in her hair. Their lips almost brushed.

"I can't stop thinking about you." His murmur played down her spine, leaving a tingling trail. His scent
invaded her. His voice embraced her like bare skin against satin sheets.

Her heart beat fast, her pulse jumped.

She disliked him, but didn't want him to let her go.

"Have you been thinking about me?" His soft tone feathered over her flesh.

"Only how much I dislike you." Lust pulsed in her belly.

He pulled her head back gently by her hair, so they looked straight into each other's eyes. Their bodies
pressed tightly together. "Liar."

Well, that sounds amazing right?? I'm so excited to read it.

Monday Madness

I have a case of Monday Madness, I have entirely too many things to do, but I think I'm not going to do any of them. I think what I'm really going to do is take my little monster to the water park. My character's are yelling at me, because they have things they want to say, but it's way too nice out to be chained to my computer.

Because I'm feeling nice today, I'm going to post a sneak peak from Mark of the Witch.....happy reading. Leave me a comment and tell me what you think.

Jilly woke up to the smell of coffee and pancakes wafting up the stairs. She rolled over and glanced at the clock, 8:30 A.M., too early to be up, she thought as she pushed herself out of bed. Snagging her robe from the hook next to the door, she walked out into the hall. By the time she was in the kitchen, she was a little more alert.

Caroline was sitting at the table with a plate of bacon, eggs, and pancakes in front of her, and a steaming cup of coffee in her hand as she read the paper. When she heard Jilly come in, she glanced up and smiled. “Thanks for last night Jill, I really needed to just let it out. Did you want me to make you a plate?”

“No, I’ll get it, you enjoy your breakfast,” She said as she was walking over to the stove. She grabbed a plate out of the cupboard and loaded up her plate. As she headed to the table she grabbed a mug and filled it with coffee and cream, and sat next to her sister. “So how did you sleep?” She asked her between bites.

“Like the dead,” Caroline said with a laugh. “I think I was just so emotionally spent, it’s been a long few days for me.”

“I bet, I don’t know how I would deal with that if I were in your shoes. So what’s your plan for today? Do you want to go to the shop and get your hair done?”

“Yeah, I think I would actually, I think I’m ready for a change.” Caroline said as she ran her fingers through her long auburn hair. “Maybe I’ll go shorter, what do you think?”

Jilly sat back in her chair and studied her sister’s face for a minute before saying “yeah, I think shorter would be really cute, maybe shoulder length with a ton of layers? And put in some chunky blonde highlights too, that would look amazing with your blue eyes.”

“Ok, can you call and set it up for me for maybe 2:30? I have a few errands to run before I go over. Is there anything you need while I’m out? I can stop by the store and grab stuff for dinner before I come home if you want.”

“Oh my gosh, I totally forgot about William coming over tonight. He’s supposed to be over around six,” Jilly said in a rush of words.

“Who’s William?” she asked with an eyebrow raised in question and a knowing smile.

“It’s not what you think,” Jilly said quickly obviously flustered, “or maybe it is, I’m not sure yet. Do you mind if he joins us for dinner, or should I meet him somewhere?”

“No, don’t change your plans on my account, I don’t want to disrupt your life any more then I have to,” she said as she cleaned off her plate and stuck it in the dishwasher. “Do you have any preferences for dinner? Or should I just pick up whatever?”

“Just get what you want, I’m sure whatever you make will be fine.” Jilly said absently.

“Ok, well, I’m going to go out for a run, I should be back in an hour or so,” she said as she tied her shoelaces and headed out the door.

Jilly was sitting at her desk in the den, she had just set up her sister’s appointment at the salon, and she was contemplating calling William. She hadn’t heard back from him after she texted him last night, and she was unsure if she should call or not. She must have dialed his number five times before actually getting the nerve to let the call go through.

He answered on the second ring “good morning Jilly,” he said before she could say hello.

“Good morning to you too,” she blurted. ” Did you get my text last night?”

He was quiet for a moment, “yes, but I was not sure how I wanted to handle it. Sabine is a very complicated person. Why did you ask about her? I am sure I have never mentioned her to you, or anyone for that matter.” His tone wary.

“I had a dream about her last night, or rather I was her in a dream and Sabine is the name you called me. We were in London, I’m not sure of the year, but I’m guessing late 1700’s by the fashion of the clothing.”

“Yes, it was London; I was there in the 1790’s for a decade or so before Sabine found me again. There are those of my kind who would use their power to hurt or enslave the human race. Sabine is one such person. We met in France in the early 1700’s; we were at a ball held for the king’s cousin. She knew me for what I was the second she laid eyes on me. I was younger than her by about five hundred years, and I was enraptured by her. She was the first of my kind I had met and she captivated me by the sheer novelty of being with another like myself. I had many questions for her, but she had few answers to give me. She only knew that there were more of us scattered around the world.

“I stayed with her for two years, more out of need for companionship then actual feeling for her. After the first six months, I began to see her for what she was, a monster. She was truly an evil person, and she liked to inflict pain and suffering on others around her. Her servants lived in fear of her, and her house had an air of darkness surrounding it. I guess you become a bit jaded, and lose your humanity after being alive for so long, and I vowed I would never become what she was no matter how long I lived. I stayed far longer then I should have, I was afraid of being alone. I thought I loved her, but that was a young man’s foolish fantasy. Sabine is not capable of love, or kindness. She only knows cruelty and possession, that’s all I was to her, another thing she thought she owned. I had been alone for ten years before I met Sabine, and her company however dark was still a comfort to me. But, my conscience got the better of me, so I fled France and traveled around Europe for nearly eighty years before I returned to England. That is where she found me, sitting in the back room of a small tavern I owned. To say I was shocked would be an understatement. We went outside in the street and argued until we started to draw a crowd. She was trying to convince me to join with her and a few others of our kind in an endeavor to gain power in France. I refused of course, and she was livid. She told me that I would regret defying her one day. I’m not sure if they succeeded or not, we tend to not make ourselves known too often in history, if we were to take credit for our accomplishments, there would be too many questions about us raised. So we stay in the background of history.
I’ve only seen her one other time since then, in 1978, she was boarding a plane as I was exiting one on the same tarmac. She looked the same of course, and when she saw me, she smiled that same horrible smile that sucks all the warmth out of your bones, and she was gone. I had not thought of her since then until you asked who she was. It makes me wonder, since I know it was not myself who sent you back, was it her?”

Jilly could hear him pacing around wherever he was, and it made her nervous. “Ok” she said, “well, I’m not sure where to go from here, do we look for Sabine? Or was it maybe Liza and Mary who sent me?”

“I don’t think it could have been Liza or Mary for that matter, since neither of them were there to have that memory. It had to be Sabine, which begs the question of how close she is to you, and what does she want?”

“We can talk more about this tonight when you come over. My sister is in town, she just came in last night and surprised me, and so she’ll be joining us for dinner. We can talk afterwards in my office if you like.”

“I shall see you at 6:00 then Jilly. Be careful,” he said before he said good-bye.

Jilly hung up the phone and sat back in the chair. She still had a few hours to kill before Emily came over, so she decided to go for a quick run. Apparently a passion for running in the outdoors was a family trait. Just as she was leaving, Caroline was coming back from her run, her face flushed red, and her hair flying wildly around her face.

“Its cold out there, so don’t stay out too long,” she said as Jilly passed her on the stairs.

After a quick five minutes of stretching Jilly took off through the small wooded area between her house and the house about five miles from her. It felt great to be outdoors in the wind, with her ponytail streaming behind her like a red flag. She cleared her mind of everything and just ran. She stopped and turned around when she had run two miles and made it back to the house without incident. She climbed the stairs in the back of the house that led to the porch and made her way into the kitchen. She found Caroline there getting ready to leave.

“Oh good.” Caroline said, “I’m glad you got back before I left. I’m going to go run my errands, and then get my hair done, I’ll see you around 5:30. Thanks again for treating me to a makeover.” She waved good-bye on her way out and Jilly was once again alone with her thoughts.
