Book Release

Well, it looks like I can officially say that Mark of the Witch will be releasing June 1st!!! I'm all done with edits and formatting, I've ordered my proof for the paperback, and gotten a bunch of swag made. I started my doing contests on my Author page on Facebook, and I suppose I should do one on here as well at some point. I'm trying to decide if I want to give away a paperback copy of the book, or stick with ebooks.....hhhmmmm, decision, decisions.

Intangible by J. Meyers

Twins Sera and Luke Raine have a well-kept secret—she heals with a touch of her hand, he sees the future. All their lives they’ve helped those in need on the sly. They’ve always thought of their abilities as being a gift.

Then Luke has a vision that Sera is killed. That gift they’ve always cherished begins to feel an awful lot like a curse. Because the thing about Luke’s ability? He’s always right. And he can’t do anything about it.

My thoughts:
I. Loved. This. Book. It was amazing, one of the best books I've read in a while. I loved Sera, her optimism and heart were very endearing. Luke was so loving and caring, it was impossible not to be crazy about him. It was such a fresh story, although it did contain elements that have been used before, I didn't feel like I was reading the same old book that everyone else was putting out.

I wanted to like Marc, but I really ended up feeling sorry for him more than liking him. Jonas, I loved Jonas, I'm a sucker for a hot vampire who still retains his humanity. Feyth was amazing, I wanted her to be my best friend lol. Not going to give everything away, so you guys will have to run out and get this one for yourselves!

I cannot wait to read the next book in this series, J. Meyers is a literary genius.

Revamped review

                                                              A simple mission turned deadly.

Nineteen-year-old vampire Dawn has led a sheltered life within the confines of her father’s presidential headquarters. Upon being sent on a mission to revamp four goofy misfits into guardians of a peaceful little town of Angel Creek, Dawn believes that all her dreams have finally come true. What starts off as a simple task, turns into something unexpected, changing Dawn’s life forever and leading the action-loving, thrill-seeking vampire teen on a path of mystery, danger and intrigue.

When a human girl is kidnapped by a group of rogue vamps, Dawn discovers that there is more going on in Angel Creek than meets the eye. And it all connects to Ethan, the cute newcomer who seems too perfect to be true, Sebastian, the mysterious vampire with a turbulent past, and even Dawn herself. Dawn must not only succeed in revamping the troubled recruits, but must also prevent the vampire race from being overtaken by a malevolent villain who has a strange and obsessive fascination with her. As threat escalates, romance blooms, and ghosts from her past begin to surface, Dawn is sure of only one thing: her life will never be the same.

My thoughts:

This was a pretty good book everything said and done, there were a few areas I didn't really like. I was not a fan of how the author depicted the werewolves in her book. I thought it was kind of cheesy, and almost an afterthought. I felt like I was waiting for something to happen that never really did.

Ok, enough about what I didn't like, lets move on to what I did. I loved Dawn, she is so strong and independent, you get the feeling that she could take on anything. I loved her fierce determination to carry out her mission even when things got a lot rougher than she anticipated. The love interests were both awesome, Ethan is your typical hotty, while Sebastian was more reserved and didn't really come around too much in the beginning.

There were definitely things in this book I didn't see coming, Aurora was one of those things. I'm not going to give away too much, because I hate when people do that. I would give this a 3 out of 5, and I would read another book by this author in the future.

Stealing Breath by Joanne Brothwell

Deep in the backwoods of North
Dakota, Sarah Ross is searching for a
missing child when she is attacked by
a glowing-eyed, transparent creature.

Using mysterious abilities, Sarah
escapes, only to run directly into Evan
Valente, a handsome, charismatic
stranger who helps her back to safety.
But why is Evan out in the forest so
early in the morning?

Sarah learns her eyes bear the mark of
the Indigo Child, an evolved human
with the ability to feel the emotions of
others; unfortunately, her indigo aura
is highly desirable to those who wish
to steal her powerful essence.

Soon, Sarah falls deeply in love with Evan and wants nothing more than to follow
her heart, but she can't ignore the lingering feeling that Evan is hiding a terrible
secret. The deeper she digs, the more danger she faces, forcing her to face the
darkest, innermost parts of her soul.

Excerpt:

I awoke to rustling outside my tent. The crunching of footsteps on gravel, twigs and

branches snapping. Was that a voice? I lay motionless inside my sleeping bag, heart pounding,

listening.

“Help.” A disembodied whisper. Was it right outside? I strained to hear but the throbbing

pulse in my head drowned everything else out. I sat up. The atmosphere within the domed tent

was wet, ripe with morning breath. The tip of my nose was cold as an icicle.

“Help.” The murmur came a second time, more audible than the last. I was sure it was a

child’s voice. My heart skipped a beat. Could it be the voice of the eight year-old, Jessica Crow,

who had gone missing from the neighboring Indian Reservation three days ago?

I thought of the drive out to the campgrounds when my friends, Amber, Kate, and I had

been listening to the radio report on the status of the missing girl from the Wakina Reservation.

Poor Amber. Once again, she’d cried at the reminder of her third cousin, Jessica, lost and alone

in the forest. Everyone in the community, including Amber, had been searching for her night and

day but had found nothing. I’d practically dragged Amber along camping, telling her she needed

a night off from her worries. It was a hard sell, but she’d finally agreed.

I glanced at where Kate and Amber should have been laying, but their sleeping bags and

pillows were missing. The last I’d seen them had been around the bonfire at two in the morning.

They could have ended up crashing just about anywhere, and I wasn’t about to go peeking into

random tents to find them.

Having fallen asleep in my jeans and a long-sleeved shirt, I slipped on my jacket and

shoes, pulled the ponytail holder off my wrist and wrapped my hair into a tight bun. I swallowed

hard and took a deep breath. Then, unzipping the door flap of the dome tent, I stuck just my head

Nothing was out of place. Empty cooler bottles atop the picnic table, charred wood in the

fire-pit, and the car we came in. Every campsite around us was nearly silent. The sounds of late-

night make-out sessions, pounding music, and yelling were replaced by the occasional snore.

Using my empathy, I focused on trying to pick up on the emotions of any lucid person around,

hoping I would hone in on Jessica’s emotions. Normally, the waking feelings of others hit me

like a gale force wind, without my even trying. In fact, it had always felt like a bit of a curse that

I was a walking sponge for other people’s pain. But right now, all I felt was…nothing.

The voice had seemed right outside the tent. Could I have imagined it?

I slipped out. A low, white fog blanketed the earth, enveloping the world in silence. The

temperature hovered around freezing, way too cold for camping. And last night’s vodka was no

longer taking the edge off. I shivered.

After checking around the cars and circling the campsite, I started down the road. Inside

the forest, the eerie glow of early morning and the cool fog blanched the world a ghostly white.

The moist nip in the air sharpened the scent of pine needles that littered the camp ground. I

continued down the road for about ten feet until it led to the mouth of a hiking trail.

Now that I was half-frozen and shivering, the May long weekend at the campgrounds

of Greater Slave Lake, North Dakota, seemed like a very stupid idea, even if it was the annual

spring kick-off party.

“Help!” the diminutive voice called out again, this time, louder.

The memory of Jessica’s face flashed through my mind when I’d met her last summer; honey-

brown eyes and springy hair that always stuck up around her head with static, and her sweet

smile, part baby teeth intermixed with adult teeth. She was such a sweet, innocent child. If she

had survived this long, she could be dangerously close to death from cold. My heart battered

against my chest wall, and I fought off the urge to start running, directionless, into the bush to

find her.

The voice had originated from further within the tree-line, I was sure of it. Closer now,

yet still far away. I entered the trail and headed straight.

“Jessica?” I called out. No response but the echo of my own voice from the trees around

The trail was straight and narrow for well over a hundred feet, the trees like two solid

walls of green on either side of me. Then the trail began to snake back and forth until it forked

into several side-trails. I stopped to listen.

A dry crackle emerged from the trail to my right, and I immediately followed the

sound. This far into the forest it was darker, the only light filtered through evergreens and fog. I

looked back. The vapor had closed in behind me, obscuring the pathway like a curtain of white.

Shivering transformed into shaking.

Despite running these trails in the early morning numerous times, today it looked

different. I cursed under my breath and shoved my hands into my pockets.

“Hello?” I called, my voice immediately diminishing, muffled by the woods. Other than

the odd bird chirp and frog croak, the forest was quiet. If the voice really had been Jessica, she

would need help and most likely immediate medical attention. I forced myself forward.

The trail wound to and fro, the brush dense, the fog almost material as it clung to the

spruce needles. The path grew thin and sparse, barely enough room to place one foot in front of

the other, with the way the underbrush encroached on the trail. I stumbled on twigs and logs as

branches clawed my cheeks and pulled my hair. I began to trip, reaching out for something to

hang onto. I fell, my hand forced into a thorny bush.

Damn it! I stood up and peered at my scraped hand, blood beading out of paper-cut sized

scrapes. I’d been out here for at least ten minutes, but still, I heard nothing but the crunch of my

feet snapping the twigs underfoot and my breath echoing through my own head. Ready to turn

around and head back to my tent, the high-pitched voice rang out once again.

“Help.”

Liz Schulte Guest post

I'm so excited, I'm hosting Liz Schulte on the blog today! I met her in one of the writer's groups I belong to, she's really an awesome person. Here is what she had to say....enjoy :)

The Sounds of Choices

Certain songs have always reminded me of certain moments in my life. As if my life had a soundtrack.
I feel the same way about my characters and their stories. Sometimes I hear a song and I think that is
Olivia or Holden’s story. This should be Quintus’ theme. For the book Choices these are the songs that
speak the loudest to me.

  • Jar of Hearts- Christina Perri

If I had to choose one song to represent the entire book, Choices, it would be this song. I love
the emotion and the heart break that comes through in the lyrics and the singing. The song is
has a feeling of disillusionment as do two of my main characters. http://youtu.be/8v_4O44sfjM

  • Oh My God- Ida Maria

This song describes Olivia’s feelings well. She is angry at the way her life has turned out. It has a
manic, grasping at straws, screaming at the universe. http://youtu.be/eED30qLA0KY

  • Your Ghost- Greg Laswell

This song reminds me of Holden. It is a song about loss and having trouble letting go, http://
youtu.be/DejH3qnhQrA

  • You’re Beautiful- James Blunt

This song makes me think of Quintus. He knows she loves Holden, but he still has hope she will
come around to him. He believes he loves her and he doesn’t know what to do. http://youtu.be/
oofSnsGkops

Thank you for having me today. What songs remind you of a moment in your life or could be your
theme?

I think for myself, every book I write has a different soundtrack. My current vampire book has me listening to Falling in Reverse a lot. Raised by Wolves and I'm not a Vampire are my two go to songs while I'm writing.

Hearts break. Loved ones are lost. Life keeps moving.

Olivia Martin’s afterlife was more dangerous and confusing than her life ever was. She thought she was ready to come back, to forget about Holden and to let go of the rage consuming her. Fulfilling her destiny as a guardian was all that mattered—the past could stay hidden in the crevices of her mind. However, when guardians are murdered and the evidence points towards jinn, she has to do something. To save anyone’s future, Olivia will have to confront the one person from her past she is terrified to see.

Holden waited for Olivia with the hope he would see her one more time. But when she didn’t return, he found salvation in darkness. The black and twisted road made it easier to forget what he lost than to live with the memory of what he had. An unexpected promotion shoves him into a world of intoxicating power and influence. Holden will have to choose between his new life and the woman he thought was gone forever.

From the ashes of Secrets, Choices are born that will change everything.

About the Author:

Many authors claim to have known their calling from a young age. Liz Schulte,
however, didn't always want to be an author. In fact, she had no clue. Liz wanted to
be a veterinarian, then she wanted to be a lawyer, then she wanted to be a criminal

profiler. In a valiant effort to keep from becoming Walter Mitty, Liz put pen to
paper and began writing her first novel. It was at that moment she realized this is
what she was meant to do. As a scribe she could be all of those things and so much
more.

When Liz isn’t writing or on social networks she is inflicting movie quotes and
trivia on people, reading, traveling, and hanging out with friends and family.
Liz is a Midwest girl through and through, though she would be perfectly happy
never having to shovel her driveway again. She has a love for all things spooky,
supernatural, and snarky. Her favorite authors range from Edgar Allen Poe to
Joseph Heller to Jane Austen to Jim Butcher and everything in between.

Liz would love to hear from you and what you thought of Dark Corners.

Shadowed Magic (The enlightened species)

Eros Sicarius, a reclusive Volaticus assassin, is confused by the modern world and his
attraction to Aymee, the beautiful, sexually confident human woman who ignites his
desire. Saving her from would be rapists puts him in the position of taking care of her
while she heals, and he further learns how her inner strength, love of life and humor
enchant him.

Just when Aymee decides that all men are jackasses and completely writes off any dream
of happily ever after, Eros, her secret crush, comes to her rescue. Falling head over heels
for the deadliest assassin in the world might not be the smartest idea, but she can't help
how she feels.

Will he cherish her love or break her heart?

Excerpt:

Aymee nodded even though he still refused to look at her. “I’ve been attacked. There

were four of them. I … I knocked out three but one of them … got away.” She gave the

911 dispatcher her location and snapped the phone closed on the nasal voice asking her

more questions. Eros peered at her from the corner of his eye, a streak of silver between

long, nearly black lashes. “They’re on their way.” She lifted her hand to cover her breast

again.

Eros stood back from the wall. Finally. If her heels were intact, she might reach his

chin, but without them, her eyes met the middle of his chest. Aymee looked down.

Eros easily stood six five. Bulky thighs filled the slack of his jeans, deep ripples

defined his stomach and guided her eyes to his heavy pecs. He handed her the shirt. “Put

this on.” Aymee noticed he looked aside while she shrugged into it and did up a few

snaps in the middle. Then he met her gaze. His dentes had yet to retract. “I cannot appear

human right now, Aymee. I will shadow when the police arrive but know that I am with

you.” He started to shimmer.

Aymee touched his arm before he vanished. “Wait. Why were you hurting? If you

need blood, please … take mine.” She’d never offered blood to anyone before. Knew

the Volaticus organized the Red Cross to acquire their blood needs and give back to

humanity at the same time.

Eros solidified, looked from her hand on his arm to the upturned wrist of her other

arm. He sighed. “I don’t need blood, Aymee. And, I wasn’t hurt." He gently brushed

the back of his knuckles over the bruise on her cheek. "I couldn’t look on your pain and

maintain my control at the same time. If I had seen this,” his thumb followed the trail his

knuckles had just taken, “I would have torn these men apart limb by limb, fed on their

entrails and pissed on their bones.”

Aymee felt his light touch all the way to her soul. Heat blossomed at the point of

contact and radiated through her bloodstream. “That would have been okay with me.”

She leaned into his touch only to pull back with a yelp as pain registered.

Approaching sirens had her looking over her shoulder to see the flash of blue and red

getting brighter against the wall. She turned back to Eros, but he was gone. Then she felt

the light brush of his knuckles on her cheek again.

“I can’t explain this,” Aymee took a deep breath and shrugged out of his shirt

unconcerned that he could see her breast. She held it out and watched it disappear the

second it transferred from her hand to his. Covering herself with her hand again, she

turned, lifted her chin and walked awkwardly toward the officers exiting their cruiser at

the entrance to the alley.

Roxy Burroughs interview

Roxy Burroughs has been kind enough to stop by the blog and answer some questions for us.

Roxy Boroughs and A STRANGER'S KISS, part of the Bandit Creek Books series.

Thanks for inviting me to talk to you today!

1. Tell us how this story came about?

A group of fellow writers met, started talking about the excitement surrounding indie
publishing, and the idea of Bandit Creek was born. More than 30 authors are writing
stories set in our fictional town of Bandit Creek Montana and, even more unique, the
novellas encompass all your favorite genres. If you like historical romances, we've got
those. If you read erotica, Bandit Creek's got that, too. There's even a children's book.
Like we say, "Everything Happens in Bandit Creek." Two new novellas debut every
month. You can check out all the titles here: http://banditcreekbooks.com/

As for my story, I'd always planned to write a follow-up book to my romantic suspense
novel A STRANGER'S TOUCH so the Bandit Creek project seemed like the perfect
opportunity.

In TOUCH I introduce Sam Hutchinson, a lawyer, who's falsely accused of his son's
murder. In KISS I pair him with Amy Tesher, a heroine who is also damaged but has
grown strong for the sake of her daughter, an eleven-year-old who is able to see the
ghost of Sam's son. But it's Amy who holds the key to Sam's redemption and, when they
get together, it's hot! Oh, and did I mention there's a serial killer on the loose?

You can find A STRANGER'S KISS here http://amzn.to/zQEUNU on Amazon.

2. Tell us something people would be surprised to find out?

I'm pretty much a what-ya-see-is-what-ya-get kinda girl. However, several years ago,
some audience members saw much more of me than usual. It was back in my acting
days and I appeared in a play…topless. I think there's even some video footage of it
floating around somewhere. Maybe it'll end up on YouTube. Yikes!

3. What genre do you read? Who is your favorite author?

I read just about anything, but I'm generally drawn to thrillers and deep psychological
stories. And I relish writers who are able to incorporate humor in the midst of all that
angst. My current favorites are Joy Fielding, Nicci French, Lee Child, and J. R. Ward.
I've also discovered some great new authors thanks to the Bandit Creek series.

4. How did you get started writing?

With of my acting/theater background, I started writing plays. And still do. From there, I
gravitated to novels.

5. What’s next for you?

My latest book is a complete departure from A STRANGER'S KISS. It's a joint project
with the multi-talented Steena Holmes. She wrote the very popular HOT FOR COWBOY
and I've followed it up with CRAZY FOR COWBOY, which is a lighthearted romantic
comedy. You can see my complete list of books at www.roxyboroughs.com.

SAM HUTCHINSON was once motivated
by power and money. But after his son's
murder, he alternates between losing himself
in a bottle of scotch and researching James
Ryan Morley, the still-at-large killer of the
boy Sam never had time for in life. Broken
and desperate, Sam traces Morley’s roots to
Bandit Creek, Montana and an addict who
once sheltered him.

There, against a serene mountain backdrop,
he finds the woman’s resourceful daughter,
AMY TESHER, and her eleven-year-old
child, Renee. Lies are Amy’s camouflage—her age, her name, even the identity of
her child’s father—all fabricated to escape the secrets of her past.

Unaware of Sam’s real mission, she takes him into her boarding house. Just as
Morley returns to take possession of Amy...and her daughter.

About the Author:

Before turning her attentions to
writing, Roxy appeared in several
TV commercials and movies. She
writes interactive murder-mysteries
for Pegasus Performances, had a
prize-winning short story produced
by CBC and published in Alberta
Anthology, and co-authored the
book Ghost Stories of Heritage Park
, on sale at the popular historical
village in Calgary, Alberta.

The novella A Stranger's Kiss is the
stand-alone sequel to her book A
Stranger's Touch, winner of The
Writer's Voice Award.
